Asian food culture

When you think about Asian foods of course you might be thinking about those famous dishes that have made it into the western society like Sushi, Nasi or Bami.

However the Asian cuisine is influenced by many different countries and different styles. In my journey through Indonesia that was really highlighted. On the one side there are lots of traditional foods such as: gado gado (vegetables with sate), various forms of sate (lamb, chicken, sheep), rawon (beef stew), rendang (spicy beef) on the other side Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Western they all come together.

It's fascinating to see all these cultural influences and how far they stretch. Traditionally Nasi and Bami are a dishes originating from China, where this was turned into Nasi Goreng / Bami Goreng. We dutch people like to fry things too, and clearly during the colonization period we left a presence behind. Coincidences or not set aside, they are still delicious dishes.

When you go to Asia you really need to try out the dishes, and even the dishes you think you already know, you come for a surprise when they do them so much better. Like spare-ribs with deep fried bao or just a simple things like string beans with garlic sauce. Who even know that jelly fish could be so delicious.

While there are so many marks of different kitchens here in Asia (even the Western ones) it's really a shame that vice versa this doesn't hold up. Where are the Pepper Lunch', Yoshinoya's in Europe.

Travel equipment 101

If you travel frequently it can be an advantage to get some good equipment, but also a very important thing to look into is a continuous travelers insurance. Travel insurance can come in various shapes and sizes. My personal one is with my bank, which covers about 2000-3000 euro in equipment, and I have some options for healthcare, flight cancellation. But it's also very useful to invest in some actual travel equipment. Personally when I started traveling frequently I looked into getting a RFID Proof wallet and I got this organization pack for my suitcase   This is a tremendous help in letting me organize everything tidy because when I open my suitcase otherwise everything falls out like chaos. Another thing I never leave without is my solar powerbank on long flights back and forth to Asia.
